Adventures in Parenting

Every day Roby and I learn something new about our son, are challenged by parenting in a new way, and discover that although we don't know what we are doing, we will figure it out...perhaps with not much grace, but definitely with a lot of laughter! On Saturday we were on our way to Books A Million to peruse books on baby sleep habits...you can imagine why...when in the parking lot we realize Owen is hungry. I remembered feeding him in the backseat a few months ago, but didn't take into consideration that he is now 25 1/2 inches long...so there I was wedged between a car seat and a semi-tinted Scion window, struggling to juggle my son and hide from view. After we figured that out, we discovered we needed to change his diaper. So Roby opted to change him on the passenger side front seat since the back seat was not offering any space. It was comical watching my husband accidentally blow the carhorn by bumping into it with his rear as he contended with a squirmy Owen...way to draw attention to ourselves! :) Ok, so even though the Scion is more spacious than it appears, perhaps a bigger vehicle is in order soon!

Owen amazes us each day with his mobility. Now that he rolls both ways (and we are talking rolls, rolls, rolls & rolls) you can't lay him down on a blanket on the hardwood floor anymore without sitting right there. And forget about him sleeping on his back, he instantly rolls over to his tummy and falls asleep with his arms tucked beneath him and his tush sticking up in the air...so cute. He has also managed to inch his way across our entire bonus room by way of some pretty smooth-looking breakdancing moves! A pre-cursor to crawling? Geez Owie! Please don't rush growing up so quickly! He is also talking up a storm, uttering new sounds all the time...today it is Ah Ah Ah and something that sounds like a growl = interesting. No more exclamations of Ghee! or Ingana, Ingana! Once he masters something, he's over it! He finally has taken interest in toys, but mainly just to gnaw on and to help him better distribute his slobber EVERYWHERE! We have recently dubbed him a Native American name, Owen Little Big Cheeks, and a Mobster moniker, Owen Three Chins! Overall, he is still doing a pretty darn good job of looking absolutely adorable. We can't stop kissing those apple cheeks.

More visitors!

We welcomed Philly friends Milly, Lisa and Dooney last weekend. We were excited to see them all again, as it has been a long time since we've ventured back home...but we think they were more excited to see little O-man, he he he. They took turns holding him all weekend, and did he ever love the attention! Of course he initiated the girls by spitting up on them, sorry guys, but he also gave them a bunch of smiles and even rolled over from his back to his belly for the first time for them! We went downtown to the Mellow Mushroom for pizza, with owen sleeping through the din the whole night (i swear he likes noisy atmospheres), spent time outside in the unseasonably warm weather, cooked a yummy breakfast and thai dinner, and spent one afternoon in a heated game of girls against boys trivial pursuit! (the boys won, but only because owen was on their side!) Their trip was much too short and we were sad to see them go :( Thanks guys for a fun-filled weekend and coming to meet owen!
